The files contained in these archives (JAVAPP.ZIP and VIEWAP.ZIP) are 32-bit Windows files and cannot be used in a 16-bit Windows environment. JAVAPP.ZIP contains all the source files plus the 3 files needed to view the applet:
simple.html
simple.class
pcmag.gif.
VIEWAP.ZIP contains only the latter 3 files. These archives *MUST* be unzipped using WinZip 6.0a (the Windows 95 version) to maintain the long filename necessary to run them. If you unzip the files using a non-Windows 95 version, you will have to rename the resulting files Simple~1.htm to Simple.html and Simple~.cla to Simple.class.
To view the applet, place the 3 files in the same directory and open simple.html in your browser.
The applet was created using Symantec CafΘ. The source files in JAVAPP.ZIP can be compiled with Symantec's CafΘ or with the JDK compiler. The files included in these archives were mentioned in PC Magazine's June 11, 1996 PC Tech Feature column "Java and Java Tools: Waking Up the Web". The author, John Lam is the director of software development at Continuous Research, a company specializing in the creation of OCX-based tools for developers.
